Minecraft Reaches 54 Million Sold, Console Editions Pass PC


Mojang's Patrick Geuder said that Minecraft's blocky sandbox is nearing 54 million copies across all platforms. Geuder also announced on Twitter that sales of the console (Xbox 360, PS3) versions have now surpassed those of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August.  Premium Content  of the game is cross-buy compatible and free for those who own the PS3 version. Xbox One and PS4 owners that have the game on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the newer versions for $5.



The first version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. It was two years before its full release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson who is the Minecraft creator have achieved a number of milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies had been sold of the PC version. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, and the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android was 21 million copies. [Image: Mojang]
